Alia Bhatt Sharvari film Alpha release preponed to July 3 2026
Looks like YRF is making some last-minute changes to its release calendar again. Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s much-awaited action thriller Alpha may now arrive in theatres earlier than expected.
The film was officially scheduled to release on July 10, 2026, but a new report by Bollywood Hungama claims that the makers have decided to prepone the release by a week. If the report is accurate, Alpha will now hit the big screens on July 3, 2026.

According to the portal, the decision reportedly came after Dhamaal 4 moved away from the July 3 slot and shifted its release to July 17. This opened up a clear window at the box office for Yash Raj Films.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “July 3 has emerged as an apt date to bring Alpha to cinemas since Dhamaal 4, which was scheduled to release on the same day, has now been pushed to July 17. With no major release planned for July 3, producer Aditya Chopra felt it was the right date to bring Alpha to theatres."

Trade experts also believe the shift could work in the film’s favour, especially with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Dhamaal 4 both releasing on July 17.
Speaking to the portal, a trade insider said, “Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is also releasing on July 17, along with Dhamaal 4. As a result, Alpha will now get two weeks to make the most of an open run at the box office, especially since no Bollywood film is scheduled to hit theatres on July 10."
So far, Yash Raj Films has not officially confirmed the new release date.
Alpha has already had a long release journey. The film was initially expected to release last year before being postponed to April 2026. Later, the makers locked July 10 as the release date. Now, reports suggest the film could finally arrive a week earlier.
The film is an important project for YRF’s Spy Universe as it marks the franchise’s first female-led movie. Along with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, the film also stars Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor in key roles.
There have also been strong rumours around cameo appearances in the film. Reports have claimed that Hrithik Roshan will appear in Alpha, while speculation around Shah Rukh Khan returning as Pathaan has also been doing the rounds online. However, there is still no official confirmation on Shah Rukh’s involvement.
Earlier this year, rumours had surfaced suggesting that Alpha could skip theatres and release directly on OTT. However, YRF strongly denied those claims.
Responding to the speculation, a YRF spokesperson told Variety India, “[That] ‘Alpha’ [is] going to stream directly [is a rumour that] aims at putting a heroine-fronted film in an unflattering light. Yash Raj Films will never put films from its theatrical slate directly to streaming. We are a studio that takes immense pride in making cinematic experiences. ‘Alpha’ is a tentpole movie for the company."
Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha has largely been shot in Kashmir. Rawail is known for projects including The Railway Men, Fan and Dhoom 3.
Bobby Deol is expected to play the main antagonist in the film. Reports suggest his character may have a deep connection with Alia Bhatt’s role and could even be linked to her training before eventually becoming her enemy.
Fans also got a major tease about Alpha during the post-credit scene of War 2. Bobby Deol made a surprise appearance in the sequence and introduced the concept of the mysterious “Alpha" programme.
In the scene, he stamps the logo of an agency onto a young girl’s hand. When she asks about its meaning, his character replies, “Alpha." He then explains the programme’s motto: “The first, the fastest, the strongest."
The moment quickly sparked fan theories online, with many believing the girl shown in the scene could be a younger version of Alia Bhatt’s character in Alpha.
