On April 30th, President Trump signed an executive order entitled “PROMOTING RETIREMENT-SAVINGS ACCESS FOR AMERICAN WORKERS BY ESTABLISHING TRUMPIRA.GOV” establishing what have been called Trump IRAs. While this executive order did something very important, some media are crediting the executive order with many actions it did not take, including providing a $1,000 IRA match. In this article, I want to share what the executive order accomplished and clarify the myths surrounding it.
Highlights:
- TrumpIRA.gov is an info site (coming by Jan 1, 2027).
- No new “Trump IRA” account type was created.
- The $1,000 match is from SECURE 2.0, not this executive order.
- If you’re eligible, your action step is: make sure your IRA custodian can accept the match (once guidance is live).
